Original Iowa Built Linear
Models

When the assets of Linear Inc. arrived in NY our first priority was to
re-design the popular Linear LWB model. Using broken frames and parts sent
in by generous Linear owners we analyzed the problems and began looking for
solutions. Working with engineers, machinists and recumbent riders we
dramatically increased strength, stiffness and durability at these critical
points.

durability issues affecting ALL Iowa built Linear Recumbents.
Linear built three models: their LWB, the CLWB "Mach III" and the SWB
"Sonic."

Linear LWB 1.0
The LWB
was always the Linear flagship model. It was available with either a
folding or welded frame. The folding frames sometimes creaked and
occasionally cracked. Many remedies for the creak have been proposed.
Welded frames were always lighter, quieter and more reliable. The
original Iowa
built LWBs sold for $1350.

CLWB "Mach III"
The CLWB Mach III was their newest and lightest design.
It was first made with USS and later with OSS also. It was not available
with a folding frame. It sold for $1150.

SWB "Sonic"
The SWB Sonic was their folding,
performance-oriented model. It was not an easy bike for first time
recumbent riders to relax on and was never particularly popular,
though some Sonic owners love their bikes. There were not many made.
It sold for $1350. We are currently working on a
new SWB to replace the Iowa built Linear
Sonic.
They all used the same seat either short back or tall back. Their seats were
particularly comfortable, and had a convenient pocket in the back to carry
small items. The seat back is mesh and very comfortable but a little soft
for top performance on hard climbs and sprints.
